Rehab patients who learn to manage their stress successfully will engage in their recovery process with more patience, calmness, energy, ability to concentrate, effectiveness, and a sense of empowerment.
This course is designed to train rehabilitation professionals to be Stress Management trainers with their clients.
The course is based on experiential learning, so that participants will be developing their own Stress Management and Relaxation skills as part of the course material.

Part Ia: First evening 6:30 - 9 p.m. Part 1b: Next day 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Part 2a: Two Weeks Later 6:30 - 9 p.m. Part 2b: Next day 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

- Theoretical understanding of stress, and its effects on pain, the rehabilitation process, and healing.
- How to assess stress symptoms.
- When to refer to a Mental Health professional.
- Teaching the Core Skills of Centred Breathing and Mindfulness of the Breath.
- Developing self awareness of stress reactions as a signal for faster recovery.
- Using the voice to help someone else to relax.
- Exposure to a range of different relaxation modalities.
- Making relaxation tapes.
- Lifestyle changes of improved stress resilience.
- Goal-setting and motivation for successful lifestyle change.
- About 3 hours of homework is expected between the two weekend sessions.
- Course manual and Relaxation CD are provided.
